Co-op Earls Court

Welcome to Co-op Earls Court, nestled in the vibrant heart of London at 210-212 Earls Court Road, SW5 9QB. This grocery store may not hold the charm of a local café, but it certainly plays a crucial role in the daily lives of residents and visitors alike. Open your heart and mind as we delve into what this establishment has to offer.

Co-op is synonymous with convenience, and the Earls Court branch is no exception. Boasting a diverse selection of products, ranging from dairy and chilled juices like Huel’s Ready-to-Drink meal, to tempting chocolates and sweets – think Mentos and fizzy lances – it caters to various palates and needs.

Among the sparkling shelves, you’ll find the refreshing Red Bull Sugar Free Energy Drink and Lucozade Raspberry Sport Drink. These energizing options are perfect for those on the go, ensuring you have everything you need for a busy day exploring Earls Court.

However, it’s essential to address the underlying currents flowing through the community regarding ethical practices at Co-op. Customers have expressed disappointment over the store's commitment to animal welfare, particularly concerning their sale of fast-growing chicken breeds, often referred to as "frankenchickens." A few voices ring louder than others, like those of Tabitha Peacock and Donna Evans, who have raised concerns about the Co-op's failure to align with customer ethics in this regard.

  • Concerns Raised: The disregard for the Better Chicken Commitment has spurred protests and discontent among loyal patrons.
  • In-store Experience: Reports of customer service challenges have added to the growing unease.

Despite these challenges, Co-op Earls Court continues to be a staple in the neighborhood, offering essential everyday needs. As a food reviewer, I find myself torn between the quality of products and the ethical implications behind them. The potential for improvement is palpable, and there is hope that the management will heed the voices of their customers and take steps to enhance their ethical stance.

So, whether you are here for the daily essentials or simply curious about exploring what this branch has to offer, remember to approach with an open mind. With a little bit of adjustment and respect for community voices, Co-op Earls Court could truly transform into a cornerstone of ethical retail in the heart of London.

Had to leave a review and it’s not the fault of the staff but after talking to campaigners about the Co-op’s refusal to stop selling Frankenchickens and to refuse to sign the Better Chicken Commitment I realised they’re not at all ethical. Can’t believe they’re ignoring % of their members wishes on this. Wow! I thought because their own-brand products were not tested on animals they cared; oh how wrong I was.

I visited this store yesterday when I was in the area. Co-op is (was) always my go-to store as I trust their products will be ethical and high quality. There were some people giving out leaflets outside and I was shocked and disappointed to see they were to inform us about how BADLY Co-op treat their chickens. If that's how they treat animals, I dread to think how they treat staff customers and suppliers. This is NOT ok. I urge you all to google Frankenchickens to see what I mean. I can honestly say I will never visit any Co-op again. Sickened.

Went to the your Earl’s Court branch earlier today and we were met upon some ignorance at the till with the cashier named Rufina, and the Indian supervisor/ manager who was on shift. We asked Rufina for a replacement bag for life/ reusable bag. She then proceeded with a debate over ‘the amount of times that she has seen us walking up and down the high street outside with these bags, there is bound to be wear & tear.’ I responded stating that: ‘that is not the point, bag for life is bag for life, reusable bag, means reusable bag. I am not here to prove what I’ve used the bag on that I’ve paid for, with my own hard earned cash. Then the supervisor / manager came over, after being called and he told us that: ‘the offer for reusable bag exchange has passed.’ which wasn’t the deal, when the bags was initially purchased. Can you make better updates, about your services for the public?I would like a prompt resolution, to this situation.

Protestors have been highlighting Co-op's continued sale of fast-growing chicken breeds (who grow so quickly that they often cannot stand up under their own bodyweight and their brief lives are full of suffering). Co-op members voted at the AGM to END the sale of these 'frankenchickens' but the store has not followed through on commitments.
